With Content Sync you can choose to only push content manually after reviewing it on your current site. This is typically used on your staging site for Content Staging. Pushing content manually has several advantages, depending on your exact use case:

  • Content milestones: Prepare multiple content items and then push all changes out at once.
    • Example: You change information about a product and need to adjust it at several places.
    • Value: Consistency. Your visitors don't get misleading or contradicting information at different pages of your site.
  • Real previews: Without a staging site, you would only have Drupal's default "preview" option for unpublished content. This usually doesn't give you the full picture, e.g. of how your content looks when referenced or embedded at other places of your site.
    • Example: Create a new revision of a page and see how that new revision is displayed at your search page or other views or pages referencing it.
    • Value: Get the full picture. Your website is more than a collection of independent pages- much of the value of your site comes from connecting your content and creating a great consumer journey- so you need to be in control of every aspect of it.

Did you know?
The push behaviour does not dictate how you pull content on other sites. You can manually push content whether it's going to been pulled automatically or manually- any combination is possible.

Access

Go to the standard content overview page in the administration area of your site.

The actions shown below are available for all other entity types as well at their list pages like for taxonomy terms, menu items, media elements and so on.

Features

Select Pool (optional)

When editing, you will see all available Pools in the right sidebar at Content Cloud (or Content Repository for our on-premise customers). Assign the content to any of the pools with a simple click.

Please note that this option isn't always available. Your site builders can configure Content Sync to automatically assign the right pool for you so that your editors aren't even bothered.

Push content individually

At the Operations column, open the drop down and click on Push changes:

Push multiple content items at once

Select the checkboxes on the left side of the content items you want to push. At the Action Drop down, select Push changes and hit Apply to selected items.

Push content immediately when saving

When editing the content, you will see the default "Save" button and another "Save and Push" button next to it to immediately propagate your changes.

Success messages

After saving the content, Content Sync will greet your editor with a success message (our on-premise customers will see the wording Content Repository instead of Content Cloud).

If you try to push the same content multiple times without actually changing the content, Content Sync will display a notice that the content wasn't actually pushed. Content Sync checks the version of the content and if nothing changed, it will not push any updates to improve the syndication performance.
